PvP only exists from level 50 onward — below that you are fully protected: you cannot attack another player, and nobody can attack you.
PvP level brackets#
PvP is split into two separate level brackets, and one bracket can never touch the other: anyone from level 50 to 149 only fights others in that same bracket, and anyone at level 150 or above only fights others in the 150+ bracket. There is no cross-bracket attack either way — that is what stops a high level from hunting down a beginner.
Secure mode#
PvP only works with secure mode off. To turn it off, click the kunai icon on the top right corner of the client, right next to the Off-Hand slot — the kunai turns blood red once secure mode is off, and you are ready to fight.
PvP damage#
A fight between players does not use full damage: the server cuts the damage before it reaches your opponent. That is what makes a fight last instead of ending in one hit.
- Your jutsu and attacks hit another player for 50% of the damage — half of what they would do to a monster.
- Your summons hit for only 35% of the damage, meaning a 65% cut. A summon hits much weaker than you do in PvP.
Skulls: how they work#
Attacking or killing another player without them attacking you first (an unjustified attack) marks you with a skull above your head — the same skull icon the client uses in-game. There are three colors, each with its own rule:
White skull#
It appears the instant you commit the unjustified attack — no punishment beyond the icon itself. Time to clear: it goes away on its own once you are out of combat, meaning 1 minute without hitting or getting hit. If you made an unjustified kill, that time goes up to 3 minutes.
Red skull#
4 unjustified kills within 24 hours give you a red skull. Time to clear: 7 days, counted from the moment it appeared — the timer keeps running even while you are offline.
Black skull#
10 unjustified kills within that same 24-hour window give you a black skull. Time to clear: 15 days, counted from the moment it turned black — the timer keeps running even while you are offline.
What the black skull takes from you#
- You can no longer attack a skull-less player outside a PvP area. You can only hit someone who has a skull, who attacked you first, or inside the arena.
- You start taking full PvP damage: the 50% and 65% cuts explained above no longer apply to you, not on direct damage and not on chakra drain. A player hits you for 100% and so does a summon. Your damage on others stays cut as usual.
- You can no longer use aggressive area jutsu. This applies even against monsters and even inside the arena.
- You can no longer call summons or kuchiyose.
- The moment the black skull appears, you lose the target you were attacking and any summons you already had vanish instantly.
- When you die, you come back with 40 health and 0 chakra instead of full health and chakra.
What red and black skull cause#
PvP tools#
Two tools help a lot in a fight: one blocks your opponent's path, the other messes with their movement.
- Wall Jutsu Seal: creates a jutsu wall at the target spot for 20s — great for blocking your opponent's route or sealing off their escape.
- Smoke Bomb: creates a 3x3 smoke area that briefly slows anyone caught inside — use it to slow down whoever is chasing you.
Both are sold by the NPC Outlaw Merchant, the same one who sells the Akatsuki Ring, hidden in the Konoha underground.
